is Tenuate prescribed?
Tenuate is used, in conjunction with
diet and exercise, to help you lose weight. Tenuate works by decreasing
your appetite.
How
should Tenuate be used?
Tenuate comes in 75 mg sustained release tablets. It is usually
taken in a single daily dose mid-morning. Follow the directions
on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist
to explain any part you do not understand. Take Tenuate exactly
as directed.
Most people
take the Tenuate no longer than 12 weeks; the length of treatment
depends on how you respond to the medication. Tenuate can be habit-forming.
Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or for a longer
period than your doctor tells you to.
What
special precautions should I follow before taking Tenuate?
Before taking Tenuate, tell your doctor and pharmacist if you
are allergic to diethylpropion or any other drugs.
Tell your
doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications
you are taking, even if you stopped taking them within the past
2 weeks.
Tell your
doctor if you have or have ever had heart disease, high blood
pressure, arteriosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries), hyperthyroidism
(overactive thyroid gland), diabetes, glaucoma, or a history of
drug abuse.
If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding,
make sure to tell your doctor. If you become pregnant while taking
Tenuate, call your doctor.
What
special dietary instructions should I follow?
Follow the diet and exercise program your doctor has given you.
Tenuate works best in combination with a diet program.
What
should I do if I forget a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it
is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue
your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make
up for a missed one.
