Xenadrine
Rfa 1
Xenadrine
Rfa 1 is one of the largest selling fat-burners in the country.
Manufactured by Cytodyne Technologies, it has achieved a great
deal of name recognition due to its extensive television and magazine
advertising. Xenadrine Rfa 1 combines ephedrine, caffeine and
the aspirin-like willow bark with Citrus aurantium, ginger root
and a nutrient blend that includes L-tyrosine, acetyl-L-carnitine,
fisetin, magnesium phosphate and DMAE.
The most active ingredients in Xenadrine Rfa 1 are Ephedrine,
Caffeine and Aspirin (ECA). Like other ECA-based products, Xenadrine
Rfa 1 works by inducing thermogenesis (the production of heat),
which speeds up your metabolism and burns calories. It also has
an appetite-suppressing effect, so you feel less hungry and therefore
eat less. (For more about how Xenadrine works, see Does
Xenadrine Work.)
The most powerful component in ECA-based supplements is ephedrine.
It's long been regarded as a fairly potent thermogenic compound,
but it was found to be even more effective when combined with
caffeine and aspirin. It's true that caffeine is also a fairly
good thermogenic compound, but it hardly measures up to ephedrine.
When these two nutrients are combined in fairly specific ratios
– 200 mg caffeine to 20 mg ephedrine (taken three times
daily) – the results are synergistic. In other words, the
effects of each are greater than the sum of their individual effects.
When aspirin – 300 mg of it per each ephedrine/caffeine
dose – is thrown into the equation, the results are further
enhanced.
In fact, studies show that the combination of ephedrine and a
precise ratio of caffeine speeds up the metabolism and enhances
fat loss. The ephedrine/caffeine combination produces a synergistic
fat-burning effect that is even more effective than the once-popular
diet pills Fen-Phen and Redux. (For more studies on Xenadrine
Rfa 1 and its ingredients, see Xenadrine
Review.)
Xenadrine Rfa 1 contains 20 mg of ephedrine alkaloids and 200
mg of caffeine from guarana seed extract, so it has the 10:1 ratio
of these two ingredients. However, unlike most fat-loss products,
Xenadrine Rfa 1 has Citrus aurantium – a source of synephrine
– as well as ephedrine (usually it's one or the other).
The Citrus aurantium adds 5 mg of synephrine to the formulation.
As a result, the ratio of ephedrine/synephrine alkaloids to caffeine
drops to 8:1. Since ephedrine is the stronger of the two ingredients,
this could well produce a more effective product. However, this
ratio has not been tested in clinical trials, so it cannot be
said whether it produces any greater fat loss than the traditional
10:1 ratio does.
Although for most people Xenadrine Rfa 1 is quite safe, if you
have a history of heart or thyroid disease or drug abuse, an enlarged
prostate or high blood pressure, you should definitely check with
your doctor before you take this product.
